Outdoor Soccer Rules

League Play
We are all about having fun, NOT killing each other. This is a recreational soccer league, so play nice. FSSG reserves to the right ban a player from the league for unsportsmanlike conduct (verbal or physical). Any verbal or physical abuse of game officials will not be tolerated; such action may result in a ban from the league.
Play hard—not rough—and keep your cool. Have fun!

A certified referee will officiate each game according to FIFA rules of soccer play and our non-violent philosophy.

Team size: Games consist of 11-v-11 players on the field. At least 8 players for 11-v-11 (including a minimum of one woman) from the team’s roster is needed at game time, otherwise you forfeit. In the event of a forfeit, players can scrimmage until the next game is ready to start.

Coed play: You need at least 3 women on the field at all times. You will play a man down for each woman missing. Having no women results in a forfeit. Please feel free to play as a sub for any team that needs people.

Substitutions: You can sub during your team's throw-in, corner kick, direct kick, or other stopped play in which your team has possession. Either team can sub during a goal kick or kick-off, or during significant stoppage of play. You must ask the referee for permission to sub.

Shinguards are mandatory, with long socks to cover them

No slide tackling allowed

No metal cleats allowed

Goalies should wear a jersey that is clearly distinguishable from field players.

Duration: Games consist of two 25-minute halves (running time), with a 5-minute halftime break. Games can end in a tie except for playoffs.

PLAYOFFS- Players must play in at least three (3) games during the session in order to play in the playoffs. If teams are tied in the standings heading into playoffs, tiebreakers are as follows:
* the team with NO FORFEITS is ranked higher
* if neither had a forfeit, then head to head record
* if neither had forfeits and they tied each other or they didn't play each other, the team that let in the least amount of goals is ranked higher
*if both had forfeits, the team that had less forfeits is ranked higher. If both had the same amount of forfeits, the team that let in the least amount of goals is ranked higher

FORFEITS- It is the captain’s duty to know if their team will have enough male/female players to field a team. If you know in advance that you have to forfeit, alert Kathy Mahoney at fssg@hotmail.com or call 617-953-9488 the day before the game so she can alert the other team of the forfeit. If your team forfeits on the day of your game, your team will forfeit two points in the standings. If your team forfeits three times in a season, you will be dropped from the league. It is in your best interest to ask for subs to help your team, before deciding to forfeit.

No alcohol allowed at the field. Violation of this rule will disqualify the player(s) or team from the league. If you get caught by the city we will lose our permit. Don't be the jerk that ruins the season for everyone.

We play during rain, but not during thunder and lightning. If games are cancelled FSSG will do its best to reschedule them. If you don't know if the game is on or not, call Kathy at 617-953-9488.

Bring your own water.

Have FUN!
